While this does certainly have an effect on your piece’s aesthetics, as the metal dulls out, it can lead to a compromised grip on your gemstone. More obvious to this are the cases where your prong breaks off completely, as in instances where you knock your jewelry on a hard surface.

Prong retipping is a fairly simple procedure whereby new metal is added to the tip of existing prongs. If your piece’s prongs have become significantly damaged, we may suggest having them rebuilt from the ground up.
