WHAT MILWAUKEE HAS TO SAY
I brought in my already beautiful, heirloom wedding ring to add a piece of our marriage. Vivian knew right away what I was looking for. We placed the order and was told 6 weeks. But we got it back in 3. I absolutely LOVE the addition. It’s still a simple, elegant ring with 3 generations of love.
Kim M.
They helped me with an heirloom ring, gave me some great advice and polished the ring for me! I also left with a necklace made by a local artist. The place is beautiful and the custom pieces are gorgeous.
Tiffany F.
Vivian did an excellent job incorporating a loose stone into a beautiful and unique engagement ring. The wedding bands compliment each other and add to the beauty!
Michelle S.
Vivian is amazing at her craft and customer service is unmatched. They really care about you and making a great ring for you. Will be back!

When replacing a gemstone, it’s important to consider both the visual and physical aspects of the replacement stone. While we initially think of the visual appeal as the most important part of the stone, it’s also important to consider its physical aspects, since this can play a large role in your piece’s wearability.
Visual Characteristics
One of the most important things to consider when searching for a replacement stone is how well it will harmonize with your piece as a whole – you want to make sure that the two will compliment each other visually.
With this in mind, it’s important to analyze the potential replacement stone’s role in your piece. Is the replacement a main stone and intended to stand out? Or is it an accent made to enhance the main stone? Does it clash with or compliment the tone of the metal? How will the piece perform in different lighting environments?
Understanding the context behind the replacement is essential for finding the right gemstone that seamlessly integrates into the design of your piece.
We can resize rings made out of gold, silver, palladium, and platinum. There are some metals, however, that we cannot resize rings for - such as tungsten or titanium. The properties of these metals make resizing almost impossible to do altogether.
Regarding setting types, there are some settings that bring with them challenges for resizing, such as tension settings. Tension set rings rely on the precise tension of the metal to hold the gemstone in place, making resizing difficult without altering its balance.
If you’re unsure about the possibilities of resizing your ring, give us a call or bring the ring to our showroom, and our team will be happy to go over what’s possible with you.
Physical Characteristics:
Just as with the stone’s visual characteristics, it is crucial to consider its physical characteristics. The stone may look wonderful with the piece, but we also want to make sure it is physically appropriate. Meaning, it is durable enough to suit your daily life.
For example, if your new gem is going to be part of a piece worn everyday, a gemstone resistant to fading is best. This is especially important for our clients who often find themselves enjoying life in the outdoors, as a lot of people here in Milwaukee do. With outside exposure, sunny or not, your gemstone will be exposed to UV rays.
Some stones, like emerald, amethyst, and rose quartz, are vulnerable to fading with heavy UV exposure. As beautiful as these stones are, given the circumstances of wearing them they may be better suited for pieces worn on special occasions or at night.
Another important aspect to consider is how durable the gemstone is – or in other words, will it withstand the wear and tear of your daily life? The more fragile gemstones, such as pearls, quartz, or opal, are better for pieces not subject to much physical stress. These are great stones for earrings, but not for rings, which are pieces that are more prone to bumps and knicks. Choosing a durable gemstone suited to your piece ensures that it is a source of joy and celebration, not worry.
If uncertain about which gemstone is best suited for your piece, our GIA graduate gemologists are more than happy to provide personalized assistance and walk you through the selection process. With so many gemstones and attributes to choose from, we understand that it can be hard to make a decision. Come visit us at our Milwaukee Showroom and let us guide you to the perfect gemstone that restores your piece to its former brilliance.
The lead time required to replace a gemstone depends heavily on how long it takes to source it.
If we have the stone you would like in our showroom, setting it on your piece can take a few days or even less. If we don’t have the stone you’d like at our showroom, then we would have to source it. Times for sourcing can vary based on the type and rarity of the gemstone, as well as market availability.
With over 57 years of experience in the industry, we have fostered relationships with gem dealers worldwide, so you can rest assured that we can find the perfect stone that you’re looking for.
Absolutely. A lot of clients don’t only come to us to restore their jewelry with a new gemstone, but also to replace one that’s fallen out.
With a new gemstone, we’ll ensure that it’s set correctly and securely in place, so that you can enjoy the piece for years to come.
